I've always believed that "homestays" represent a certain spirit and culture of the locality, as well as a "business opportunity available in every corner." Homestays differ from hotels in that their charm lies in their diversity, richness, and local affinity, reflecting the temperament, thoughts, and tastes of the homestay owners. Therefore, after the establishment of The Alliance Cultural Foundation, one of the first initiatives we undertook was homestay counseling. -- Chairman Stanley Yen
How It Started
In the autumn of 2011, during a homestay tour in Hualien and Taitung organized by The Alliance Cultural Foundation, Mr. Lin Jin-Zhen, the owner of the "Zhen Gang Old House" homestay in the Zhen Gang tribe of Changbin Township, Taitung, expressed his willingness to transfer his assets and end over a decade of running the homestay. Mr. Lin, who had participated in a homestay counseling workshop held by the Foundation, strongly agreed with the Foundation's philosophy of deep local cultivation and thus hoped to entrust the management of his homestay to the Foundation.
