History

Music Director Hu often asks himself, "What significance do classical music and musicians actually have in modern society?" The musicians of TC strive to carve a path for audiences to appreciate classical music. Therefore, in addition to their annual performances, Taiwanese musicians have formed small chamber groups such as the Trio d'Anches Sen, Artrich String Quartet, Bermuny String Quartet, H.E.Y. String Trio, Covidless String Quartet, Zhuo Yue String Quartet, and the Forest Woodwind Quintet. These groups perform in rural schools and businesses to promote music and invite students to TC's performances at concert halls.

The principal oboist, Wanchen Hsieh, said, "When educational resources are scarce, aesthetic education is often the first to be sacrificed. However, we should cherish children's intuitive sensitivity to beauty." Before performing at schools, TC musicians select the pieces to be performed and play it during the students' free time and lunch breaks to familiarize them with the music; later during the music sharing sessions, they explain classical music in ways that are approachable to children.

Director Hu stated, "When Mr. Stanley Yen and I established TC in 2004, he has always encouraged musicians to speak as well as perform. Musicians should not only practice but also actively go out and share, venturing into remote areas that usually wouldn't have such opportunities, which is also a way of rediscovering Taiwan." Director Hu also believes that one should never underestimate the audience's passion for classical music, "Rather, our success depends on whether we perform well and can convey the beauty of music."

Hu Shi once stated that a key measure of a society's civilization is whether its people, across all social strata, understand how to "live" meaningfully. Stanley Yen has always held the conviction that a society progresses towards civilization only when it embodies a certain quality of life. This ethos is accessible to all: those facing hardships can find spiritual solace in it, whereas even the most accomplished might seem coarse without it. TC aims to serve as music missionaries, aspiring to extend their reach to every corner of Taiwan.
